Quantum computer ported into chips

Posted on the September 5th, 2009 under My Computer Tips by admin

Researchers have devised a penny-sized silicon chip that uses photons to run Shor’s algorithm – a well-known quantum approach – to solve a maths problem.

The algorithm computes the two numbers that multiply together to form a given figure, and has until now required laboratory-sized optical computers.

This kind of factoring is the basis for a wide variety of encryption schemes.

The work, reported in Science, is rudimentary but could easily be scaled up to handle more complex computing.

Shor’s algorithm and the factoring of large numbers has been a particular case used to illustrate the power of quantum computing.

Quantum computers exploit the counterintuitive fact that photons or trapped atoms can exist in multiple states or “superpositions” at the same time.

For certain types of calculations, that “quantum indeterminacy” gives quantum computers a significant edge.

While traditional or “classical” computers find factoring large numbers impracticably time-consuming, for example, quantum computers can in principle crack the problem with ease.

That has important implications for encryption methods based on factoring, such as the “RSA” method that is used to make transactions on the internet more secure.

The best printers for your home and office

Posted on the August 25th, 2009 under My Computer Tips by luqman

A printer is an output device that produces text, colour and graphics on paper. Printers technology continue to advance everyday, if you buy a printer today and you go to the shop to buy the same type of printer for a friend, it possible you will not find that particular type of printer in the market after a few months. What you may find is a similar upgraded one, which is better than the one you bought some month ago, this is because printer technology used to advance everyday. If you want to buy a printer that can stand the test of time with all the latest technology you need today, you have to see a wide ranges of printer manufacturer by the Brother Canada. There will probably come a time when you want to replace your home or office printer to keep up with current and latest technology of printers in the world. There are various types of printers among others its includes photo printer, multifunction printer, label printer, laser printers, inkjet printer, fax machine, laser printer etc, you can get a better picture of them at Brother Products

  • Special printers include the following:
The multifunction printer can tackle a range of day to day office print work, some of them are as fast as 520 MHz processor, paper-saving two sided printing and flexible paper-handling capabilities – including paper capacity up to 3,000 sheets.
Photo printer are designed with the modern digital camera in mind, its allow the consumer to print pictures at a personal computer rather than spending money on prints from a photo shop. Photo print heads allow a greater resolution to be achieved to improve photo image quality.
Portable printers are small printers that allow computer users to print from laptop computers when travelling.  They are easy to carry, convenient to use but generally more expensive than normal inkjet printers due to the compact design. Portable printers are usually fairly lightweight and sometimes carry the option of using a battery instead of drawing power from the computer.
  • The most popular printers are:
Inkjet printers spray ionized tiny drops of ink onto a page to create an image, they are capable of producing high quality print which almost matches the quality of a laser printer. These are useful if all you need is the occasional greeting card or stack of flyers, but may be inadequate if you’re looking for something with a little more quality. In addition, colour ink-jet printers provide an inexpensive way to print full colour documents.
Laser printers print very fast, and supply cartridges work a long time. They use a laser beam to produce an image on a drum. The drum is then rolled through a pool, or reservoir, or toner, and the electrically charged portions of the drum pick up ink. Finally, using a combination of heat and pressure, the ink on the drum is transferred onto the page. The light of the laser alters the electrical charge on the drum wherever it hits. A laser printer can move very quickly so it can transfer information incredibly quickly to the paper, another great advantage of laser printer is that the laser beam transfers the image to be replicated very precisely on to the paper, which saves the spilling of any extra ink. But a great disadvantage of it is that a laser printer only print on certain kinds of paper, they are not yet capable of printing high resolution images.

Today colour printers have changed the printing industries, with a little amount of money, you can buy a colour printer and print all your colour work at home and in the office, computer and technology products continue to improve, so are colours printers continue to advance day in day out.

Windows 7, Packs IE8 and New Enhancements

windows7

The first post-beta version of Windows 7 is up on bit torrent sites everywhere, and actually includes a few benefits over Build 7000, the previous, beta version.

The most obvious new feature is the inclusion of Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate, a step up from the previous build’s beta edition. But it also includes a bunch of new icons and animations, and apparently the start menu’s search option is faster than before. Despite a few flaws, we’re pretty much in love with Windows 7 over here and it’s good to know that it’ll get even better before the final release.

Listen to flight 3407 with Air Traffic Controllers with video

First of all, I know this is a computer blog but I have a passion for flying and skydiving so I decided to post this here.

You can hear the female co-pilot of flight 3407 talking to the controllers in the beginning of the audio. Towards the middle, they begin looking for the aircraft in the air and ground.

Forty-nine people died when a Continental Connection airplane crashed into a house in Clarence Center shortly after 10:15 p.m. Thursday, setting off a huge fire that could be seen miles away.

The dead included 44 passengers, four crew members and a person on the ground.

A nurse at Erie County Medical Center said the hospital’s second shift had been told to stay late to treat survivors but was sent home before midnight.

“There were no souls to bring in and treat,” she said.

Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman C. Douglas Hartmayer said there was little communication between the plane, Flight 3407, and the tower before the crash. Crew members aboard the flight from Newark Airport had not reported mechanical problems as they approached Buffalo.

The plane was a Bombardier Q400, a twin-engine turboprop with a passenger capacity of about 74.

“I was told by the tower the plane simply dropped off the radar screen,” Hartmayer said.
